Dangote refinery exports first petrol cargo to US

The Dangote refinery has successfully exported its first petrol cargo to the United States (US).

Sources at the facility confirmed to TheCable that the “vessel left the refinery to US about two weeks ago”.

Data from MyShipTracking, a global vessel monitoring platform, shows that the shipment, carried on the vessel Gemini Pearls, arrived in New York on Monday, based on the ship’s automatic identification system (AIS).

On Tuesday, Reuters reported that Vitol, an international oil trader, and Sunoco, a North American fuel distributor, had received the first petrol import from the refinery into the US.

According to Reuters, the cargo on the Gemini Pearl was discharged on Monday at Sunoco’s Linden terminal in New York Harbor.

The report noted that Vitol acquired the Gemini Pearl’s cargo — approximately 320,000 barrels of petrol — from Mocoh Oil, a Switzerland-based company, before selling most of it to Sunoco.

However, the publication stated it remains unclear “what volume Vitol sold to Sunoco and how much it will keep”.

Reuters further revealed that a second petrol shipment from the Dangote refinery to the US, sold by Glencore to Shell, is being transported on the vessel ‘MH Daisen,’ expected to dock in New York Harbor around September 19.

Additionally, a third consignment, also purchased by Vitol from Mocoh, is being carried aboard the vessel ‘Seaexplorer,’ with an anticipated arrival in the New York Harbor area on September 22.
