Dapo Abiodun gifts 40 new SUVs to Ogun monarchs

The Ogun State Government has distributed 40 brand-new SUVs to traditional rulers across the state.

The presentation took place during the statutory meeting of the Ogun State Council of Obas at the Obas’ Complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Thursday.

Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the development in a post on his X handle later that day, explaining that the gesture was meant to appreciate the monarchs for their role in maintaining peace, stability, and development. He described them as custodians of culture and key intermediaries between the government and the people.

He stated, “Today, at the statutory meeting of the Ogun State Council of Obas held at the Obas’ Complex, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, we presented 40 brand-new SUVs to our revered traditional rulers in appreciation of their invaluable support and partnership in sustaining peace, stability, and development across Ogun State.

“As custodians of our culture and tradition, and as a vital bridge between government and the people, we remain committed to supporting our monarchs in the discharge of their responsibilities.”

The governor also urged traditional rulers and their communities to continue collaborating with the government to sustain a peaceful and business-friendly environment.

He emphasised that the state must remain attractive to investors, noting that their presence would boost job creation, infrastructure growth, and overall living standards.

He wrote, “We also used the occasion to urge our traditional rulers and communities to continue working with us in creating a peaceful, welcoming, and investor-friendly environment across all parts of the state.

“We made it clear that Ogun State cannot afford to discourage genuine investors whose presence will create jobs, drive infrastructure development, and improve the well-being of our people.

“In the same vein, we called for greater vigilance on security, responsible land administration, and stronger community cooperation as we continue to build a safer, more prosperous, and economically vibrant Ogun State together.”

The Ogun State Council of Obas serves as the official body that brings together traditional rulers under a formal structure, acting as a consultative platform between the government and the traditional institution. It operates under the Obas, Chiefs, Council of Obas and Traditional Council Law of Ogun State enacted in 2021, which regulates the selection and recognition of traditional rulers in the state.
