Death row Inmate escapes from Yobe prison

A death-row inmate, identified as Abba Hassan, has escaped from the Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Potiskum, Yobe State.

The Yobe State Police Command confirmed the jailbreak in a public notice released on Saturday, stating that the incident occurred on October 31, 2025.

According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, Hassan — a native of Maiduguri in Borno State — was awaiting execution before managing to flee the facility.

He called on residents of Yobe and nearby states to be on alert and report any information that could help find him.

“People should not try to confront or arrest him on their own. For your safety, report to the nearest police station or correctional centre,” the statement read.

The Command also released an emergency number — 08038452982 — for anyone with useful information.

SP Abdulkarim thanked members of the public for their cooperation and assured that police are working with other security agencies to rearrest the escapee and keep the state safe.
