Democracy is working – Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the large turnout of All Progressives Congress (APC) members during the presidential direct primary, calling it “the beauty of democracy.”

He encouraged party members and Nigerians to come out in large numbers during next year’s elections and vote as a patriotic responsibility to the country.

President Tinubu and his wife, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, arrived at Ward L2, Ireti Primary School, Mekwen, Eti-Osa, Ikoyi, at about 11:34 a.m., alongside Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Shortly after arriving, the president and first lady were accredited by the party’s electoral officials led by the Returning Officer, Martha Adukwu.

They were welcomed by former state chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, Trade and Investment Minister Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Governance Advisory Council (GAC) member Alhaji Mutiu Are, House of Assembly member Gbolahan Yishau, and other local party leaders.

Dressed in a blue kaftan and matching cap, the president joined the accreditation queue while party members hailed him.

At the end of the poll, Adukwu announced that President Tinubu secured 4,996 votes.

According to the returning officer, the ward has 5,163 registered party members.

His opponent, Osifo, received zero votes.

The president commended the exercise, stating that he was impressed by the high turnout.

He added that reports from other state chapters showed that the shadow poll was conducted peacefully and in an orderly manner.
