DHQ launches toll-free line, says 662 terrorists killed in Q2 2026

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has launched a toll-free emergency number, 193, to strengthen intelligence gathering by encouraging Nigerians to report security threats across the country.

It also disclosed that troops of the Armed Forces killed 662 terrorists and other criminal elements during operations carried out in the second quarter of 2026.

The announcement was made on Wednesday in Abuja by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Micheal Onoja, while presenting the military’s operational update for June and the second quarter.

He urged members of the public to support ongoing counter-insurgency and security operations by providing credible and timely information through the dedicated hotline.

Onoja said military operations between April and June recorded significant progress against terrorists, kidnappers, oil thieves and other criminal groups across different parts of the country.

According to him, the Armed Forces also arrested over 1,000 suspects, rescued hundreds of kidnapped victims, recovered weapons and ammunition, dismantled illegal refining sites, and disrupted criminal supply networks during the period.

He added that troops achieved similar gains in June alone, with hundreds of suspects arrested and over 500 kidnapped civilians rescued in various operations nationwide.

Onoja described the results as evidence of sustained military pressure and improved coordination across operational theatres.

He also highlighted several major rescue missions and tactical operations carried out in parts of the North-East and other regions, including the disruption of insurgent logistics networks and recovery of arms and stolen petroleum products.

The DHQ maintained that all operations were conducted in line with international humanitarian law and established rules of engagement.

The military further reported the arrest of suspected informants and collaborators in multiple states, as well as the foiling of planned attacks and recovery of weapons during various encounters.

It said ongoing operations, combined with increased intelligence sharing from civilians, have continued to weaken terrorist and criminal networks across the country.
