The Jigawa State Police Command has urged residents of Tsohon Gari and neighbouring communities in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area not to panic over gunshots, announcing that a routine shooting range exercise will be conducted on Sunday, August 2, 2026.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam.
According to the statement, the exercise will take place at the CP AT Abdullahi Shooting Range in Tsohon Gari as part of the command’s routine operational training programme.
“The Command wishes to inform the general public that all preparations have been made to conduct a shooting range exercise for its personnel tomorrow, Sunday, 2nd August, 2026, at the CP AT Abdullahi Shooting Range, located at Tsohon Gari, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area,” Adam said.
He explained that the training is designed to improve firearms handling, tactical skills and operational readiness among police officers.
According to him, the exercise forms part of the command’s firearms proficiency programme aimed at enhancing the professionalism, combat readiness and operational effectiveness of personnel.
Adam added that the training is intended to strengthen the command’s capacity to protect lives and property across Jigawa State.
The police spokesperson appealed to residents, particularly those living around the shooting range, to remain calm if they hear gunfire during the exercise.
He assured the public that the firing would be carried out in a secure and controlled environment under strict supervision.
The command also advised residents to avoid the immediate vicinity of the shooting range throughout the exercise to ensure public safety and allow the training to proceed without disruption.
According to Adam, the advisory was issued to prevent unnecessary panic and ensure the smooth conduct of the exercise.
He thanked residents for their continued cooperation with security agencies and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to public safety and continuous capacity building for its personnel.
