Dubai Police foil $25m Diamond theft

Dubai police announced on Monday that they arrested three thieves just hours after they stole a rare pink diamond worth $25 million.

“The Dubai Police General Command has thwarted the theft of a very rare pink diamond, valued at $25 million,” the force stated through the United Arab Emirates’ official news agency WAM.

According to police, a diamond trader who had brought the gem from Europe was lured to a villa by a criminal gang under the pretence of showing it to a wealthy client. When the dealer arrived for the fake viewing, the gang stole the jewel.

Within eight hours, officers arrested three men from an unspecified Asian country, crediting “specialised and field teams, supported by the latest artificial intelligence technologies.”

Video released by the Dubai Media Office showed the three suspects with blurred faces following their arrest, along with CCTV footage of the crime.

Dubai remains a key global hub for diamond trading. The UAE, which prides itself on security and stability, maintains tight control and policing of such transactions.
