The Edo State House of Assembly has passed a bill repealing the Customary Court of Appeal Law 2025 and enacting a new law to re-establish the Customary Court of Appeal in the state.
The bill was considered and adopted clause by clause during the Committee of the Whole session on Wednesday. Following its passage, Speaker Blessing Agbebaku directed the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Audu Omogbai, to transmit clean copies to Governor Monday Okpebholo for assent.
In a related development, the House also received the committee report on a bill seeking to establish the Edo State Property Protection Committee to safeguard government properties and establishments.
Presenting the report, Maria Edeko, Chairperson of the Committee on Security and Public Safety and member representing Esan North-East II Constituency, said the committee identified some gaps in the initial draft, which were amended accordingly.
The report, containing four findings and one recommendation, was adopted by the House as amended.
Before adjourning plenary to Monday, October 27, 2025, the Speaker urged all members to conclude pending committee assignments for timely presentation and consideration.
