Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to tackling cultism, kidnapping, and other criminal activities across the state.
Following a closed-door meeting with commanders and leaders of the Special Security Squad at the Government House in Benin City, Okpebholo stated that his government would intensify its efforts to ensure the safety and security of all residents.
Present at the meeting were Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa, Secretary to the State Government Musa Ikhilor, security team member Ameloemen Idemudia Noah, and other senior officials. The governor described the session as productive, noting that it allowed for strategic discussions to enhance security operations.
“We had a very useful meeting focused on the fight against cultism and kidnapping. We want Edo State to be safe for everyone and to create the right environment for a thriving economy,” Okpebholo said.
According to the statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the Special Security Squad has made significant progress since its formation. Several arrests have been made during coordinated raids, helping to restore calm to previously volatile areas, especially in Benin City.
The multi-agency squad includes operatives from the Nigerian Army, Police, NSCDC, local vigilantes, hunters, and even reformed cultists. It has reportedly mapped out key hotspots, conducted surprise raids, and apprehended leaders of various cult groups.
