The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has vowed to conduct a thorough investigation into claims of misappropriation of local government funds in Kogi State.
The pledge came after the Igala Youth Council submitted a petition to the EFCC headquarters on Wednesday. Led by their president, Onogu Collins, the group visited the Abuja office to demand immediate action over what they described as widespread diversion of funds meant for development across Kogi’s 21 local government areas.
In their petition dated November 26, 2025, the council alleged that substantial federal allocations to Kogi local governments in 2024 and 2025 were unaccounted for, citing Dekina, Yagba East, and Adavi as examples.
The petition called for a full audit of all local government allocations from 2024 to date, as well as the investigation and prosecution of those responsible. The group also sought transparency in fund usage and full access to statutory allocations for local government leaders.
Addressing the delegation, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale assured that the commission would act firmly, promising a comprehensive and diligent investigation into the claims.
In October 2024, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede had pledged careful monitoring of expenditures by the 774 local government chairmen from federal revenue allocations, noting the excessive control state governments exert over local finances. He also highlighted the commission’s expanded presence and oversight across the country.
