A former leader of the African Democratic Congress in Ekiti State, Ayodele David-Adesua, has quit the party and joined the Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
David-Adesua, who contested as an ADC governorship aspirant in 2018 and 2026, is now aiming for the PDP senatorial ticket for Ekiti North Senatorial District.
In a resignation letter dated April 21, 2026, and addressed to the ADC chairman of Ijesa Isu Ward 7 in Ikole Local Government Area, he stated that his decision was final and aligned with his political goals.
“I hereby resign my membership of the ADC with immediate effect, 21st April 2026. My membership registration number is EK-IKO-IJ-11183,” he said.
He noted that he had made significant contributions to the party’s development at various levels during his time in the ADC.
“During my time with the ADC, I actively contributed at the ward, local government, state and national levels, both before and after the coalition.
“Specifically, I secured office spaces in all 12 wards within Ikole Local Government Area and provided financial support to sustain the party’s operations at multiple levels,” he stated.
Sources close to him indicated that his move to the PDP is part of his plan to pursue his ambition of representing Ekiti North in the Senate.
Confirming his defection on Tuesday, David-Adesua said the move was motivated by his desire to better serve his people.
“I took the decision in order to fulfil my purpose of getting the dividends of democracy across to my people in Ekiti North Senatorial District. I need an effective political platform to make it happen,” he stated.
The development comes amid ongoing political shifts in Ekiti State ahead of the June 20, 2026 governorship election and the 2027 general elections.
