Media personality Robert Ekpo has pushed back against a cease-and-desist notice issued by his estranged wife, Mayowa Lambe, describing her ₦100 million damages claim as excessive, unfounded, and premature.
Through his lawyers at TAP Legal Services, Ekpo shared his response on Instagram on Thursday, a day after Lambe’s legal representatives demanded he retract statements made about her on The Honest Bunch podcast.
The reply, dated April 23 and signed by M. M. Obonb, was addressed to Chinedu Nwaneri of Aunt Landa’s Bethel Foundation, and acknowledged receipt of the original notice.
However, Ekpo’s legal team stated that their client “categorically denies the allegations as presented” and rejects claims that his statements were false, malicious, or defamatory.
“Any statements made by him, whether privately or on public platforms, were based on his personal experiences, understanding of events, and matters he reasonably believes to be true. At no time did he act with malice or with the intent to injure your client’s reputation,” the letter read.
It added that the dispute stems from a complex relationship, warning against selective presentation of facts to create a misleading narrative.
On the ₦100 million demand, the lawyers stated: “Your demands, particularly the request for ₦100,000,000.00 in damages, are viewed as excessive, unfounded, and premature.”
They also described the ultimatum given by Lambe’s team as unreasonable and inconsistent with standard legal practice, especially in a case involving contested facts.
Ekpo’s lawyers further claimed their client possesses “documentary and testimonial evidence” contradicting several of Lambe’s assertions, including communications and records of interactions, which would be presented at the appropriate time.
The response also signalled a possible counter-suit, stating that if legal action proceeds, Ekpo would defend himself and may file claims for harassment, intimidation, and reputational damage.
In a notable twist, the letter alleged that parts of Lambe’s notice amount to “an admission of some of our client’s claims,” adding that it could be tendered as evidence in a petition to United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.
“While our client remains open to lawful and structured resolution mechanisms, he will not be coerced into admissions or concessions under threat. Kindly govern yourselves accordingly,” the letter concluded.
The dispute stems from Ekpo’s appearance on The Honest Bunch podcast, where he made several allegations about Lambe, including claims about their marriage, finances, and her personal life.
Lambe’s legal team, through Aunt Landa’s Bethel Foundation, has denied the allegations, insisting that their traditional marriage had already been dissolved with family consent before May 11, 2025. They also claimed to have evidence, including financial and medical records, to counter Ekpo’s statements.
The public exchange has continued to spark widespread reactions on social media, with both parties’ legal positions now in the open.
