Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has approved the recruitment of 6,580 qualified candidates into academic, technical, and administrative positions across public primary and junior secondary schools, with priority given to staffing the state’s 267 Smart Green Schools.
The recruitment exercise was announced in a job vacancy notice issued by the Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), Associate Professor Hyginus Okibe Banko.
According to the vacancy advertisement seen by our correspondent on Wednesday, the recruitment is part of the state government’s wider plan to strengthen the education sector and improve learning outcomes.
“In line with his administration’s commitment to providing the human resources required to drive the Smart Green School initiative and deliver quality education across the state, Governor Peter Mbah has approved the recruitment,” the notice read.
According to the notice, the recruitment drive cuts across multiple core and specialised roles.
A breakdown of the positions shows that the board is seeking 4,698 core subject teachers in Mathematics, English Language, Basic Science, Basic Technology, ICT, French, Igbo Language and History.
Other positions advertised include 520 digital librarians, 380 experiential learning innovators, 267 guidance counsellors, 267 ICT staff, 267 laboratory attendants, 136 account officers and 45 technicians.
Outlining the educational and professional requirements, ENSUBEB stated that teaching applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree in education, a bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, or a Nigeria Certificate in Education in the relevant subject areas.
Registration with, or proof of ongoing registration with, the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria is mandatory for teaching applicants.
Requirements for non-teaching roles vary, ranging from degrees in specialised fields such as Library and Information Science, STEM and Psychology to an Ordinary National Diploma, Trade Test Certificate or SSCE/WASSCE for positions such as laboratory attendants, technicians and ICT staff.
The board emphasised that “candidates applying with a degree or HND must possess a valid NYSC discharge or exemption certificate,” while noting that “practical proficiency in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools is required across all cadres.”
Interested and qualified candidates are required to submit a formal application letter alongside a detailed curriculum vitae, copies of credentials, a birth certificate or sworn affidavit of age, and valid contact information.
Applications can be submitted in hard copy to the Office of the Executive Chairman, ENSUBEB, Enugu State, or electronically by compiling all documents into a single PDF file and sending them to ensubebofficial@outlook.com.
Highlighting the rules governing the application process, the board added, “Important Note: Application is completely FREE OF CHARGE. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for the screening and selection interview.”
The closing date for submission of applications is Friday, August 14, 2026.
