A former member of the House of Representatives, Aminu Danmaliki, has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his decision to join the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking at a press briefing on Saturday, the ex-lawmaker said the move followed “careful reflection, sincere consultation and prayerful consideration,” adding that it was motivated by his desire to pursue a political platform he believes better reflects his values.
“Today is not simply about changing political parties. It is about choosing principles over convenience. It is about choosing conviction over comfort. It is about choosing the people over power,” he said.
Danmaliki stated that his departure from the APC was not driven by personal grievances but by his belief that public office should focus on improving the welfare of citizens.
“I have decided to resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress and formally join the Peoples Redemption Party. I do so without bitterness. I do so without malice. I do so with respect for those with whom I have worked over the years,” he added.
He said worsening economic hardship, unemployment, inadequate healthcare and limited educational opportunities have made life increasingly difficult for many Nigerians, stressing that governments should prioritise the well-being of the people.
The former legislator described the PRP as a party committed to social justice, accountability and inclusive development, saying its agenda aligns with the country’s current needs.
He also expressed concern over Bauchi State’s development, arguing that despite its abundant natural and human resources, the state has yet to fully realise its potential because of poor governance.
Danmaliki highlighted his years of service in journalism, public administration, business and education, saying those experiences have strengthened his commitment to public service.
He declared support for Senator Shehu Buba’s governorship ambition under the PRP in the 2027 election, describing him as “a man of courage, vision and commitment.”
The former lawmaker appealed to residents of the state, particularly young people, women, farmers, artisans and community leaders, to rally behind the PRP and embrace issue-based politics.
He expressed confidence that responsible leadership and prudent use of public resources can drive meaningful progress in Bauchi State and across Nigeria.
