Ex-Kogi Gov Idris Wada defects to APC, receives membership card

The former governor of Kogi State, Idris Wada, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He received his APC membership card on Saturday at his residence in Odu, Dekina LGA, marking his formal exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to his media aide, David Alfred-Dogwo, Wada remains confident about his political prospects. He described the event as “a brief but significant ceremony” that underscores Wada’s new political chapter and highlights the APC’s expanding presence in Kogi East.

The occasion drew APC leaders, supporters, and well-wishers from across the local government. Alfred-Dogwo also noted that Wada’s defection is expected to strengthen the party’s base in Dekina, enhance its readiness for future elections, and contribute to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election efforts.

Wada served as Kogi governor from January 2012 to January 2016 under the PDP but failed in his re-election bid. The 2015 governorship poll was declared inconclusive, with a supplementary election held in December. Following the death of APC candidate Abubakar Audu a day after the initial election, INEC later declared Yahaya Bello, the party’s substitute candidate, as governor.
