Ex-Minister, ex-Governor’s wife leave PDP for ADC in Yobe

A former Minister of Police Affairs and two-time governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe State, Adamu Maina Waziri, has formally resigned from the party and returned his membership card.

Waziri made the announcement at Dogotebo Ward in Potiskum Local Government Area, describing his decision to leave the PDP after years of dedication and service as a difficult one.

“I have decided to resign my membership because of the provision in the party’s constitution, which requires me to come to my ward — Dogotebo in Potiskum, located in a primary school that is older than me — to submit my resignation letter and formalise the action I took about a week ago,” he said.

“I want to assure you that this is a very hard decision. But the young man standing in for the chairman is one of my boys, and I urge them to join us in the near future.”

In a similar move, Zainab Boni-Haruna, wife of a former governor of Adamawa State and a native of Yobe, has also left the PDP.

She announced her resignation at Kukar Gadu community in Fika Local Government Area and declared her decision to join the newly formed African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.

“I have come to my home and village to inform them that I have ceased to be a member of the People’s Democratic Party. I have tendered my letter of resignation and handed over my membership card to the party,” she said.

“I urge them to join the new train of the coalition, called Sabuwar Tafiya (new journey) in Hausa, to elect leaders who will bring better governance to our people.”

She urged her supporters and other well-meaning Nigerians to throw their weight behind the coalition as preparations for the 2027 general elections begin.

Despite being less than a week old, the newly formed ADC coalition has already started drawing interest from numerous politicians in Yobe State, especially discontented members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
