Ex-NMA president joins Ondo senatorial contest, supports Tinubu

A former President of the Nigerian Medical Association, Prof. Francis Faduyile, has officially declared his intention to contest the Ondo South Senatorial bye-election while also declaring support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

Faduyile made this known while addressing journalists in Okitipupa, the headquarters of Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Friday.

The senatorial seat became vacant after Senator Jimoh Ibrahim was appointed Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Following the Senate’s declaration of the seat as vacant, the Independent National Electoral Commission scheduled June 20, 2026, for the bye-election.

The former NMA president said he is prepared to complete the remaining tenure of Ibrahim and ensure effective representation for the people of Ondo South Senatorial District.

He stated that “Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim has laid a good foundation, and his legislative impacts have put Ondo South on a pedestal of prominence. So I am eminently qualified to complete the term of the renowned Ambassador.

” I have a blueprint for ensuring adequate legislation is worked on to consolidate the issue of security. Internal vigilance is the price of liberty, and awareness about the environment by both indigenes and settlers is of the essence,” he said.

Faduyile, a medical doctor and former Special Adviser on Health Matters to late former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, also promised to pursue legislative initiatives focused on healthcare improvement, youth and women empowerment, and job creation across the six local government areas in the district.

He further stated that his representation would align with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu.

“We must get ourselves together and work for the reelection of Mr President. We must all work together to ensure President Bola Tinubu scores more than 1million votes in Ondo State, come 2027,” he said.
