Explosion kills seven, injures several commuters in Borno

Seven commuters were killed in an explosion along the Maiduguri-Damboa Road, caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Boko Haram terrorists.

Sources reported that the incident occurred on Saturday as a military-escorted convoy was transporting passengers from Damboa to Maiduguri. The explosion also left several others injured, with varying degrees of severity.

The Maiduguri-Damboa Road, which passes through the Sambisa Forest, has long been a hotspot for Boko Haram activities. The road had been closed to traffic for years until Governor Babagana Zulum reopened it, enabling travel to Damboa, Chibok, and other southern Borno LGAs under military escort.

Military convoys traverse the road twice weekly after thorough IED scans, a practice that has been in place for over two years.

The injured passengers, whose exact numbers remain unspecified, have been transported to a Maiduguri hospital for urgent medical care.
