Farotimi vows Legal Action over detention saga

Human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi has vowed to take legal action against those responsible for his arrest and detention in connection with the now-discontinued defamation case involving senior advocate Afe Babalola (SAN).

In December, police operatives arrested Farotimi in Lagos and transported him to Ekiti State, where he was charged with defaming Babalola in his book Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.

An Ekiti Magistrates’ Court remanded the lawyer for 21 days. However, the case was eventually withdrawn by Babalola, bringing an end to the prolonged legal dispute.

Despite the case being dropped, Farotimi has made it clear that the issue is far from over, as he intends to seek redress against those he claims abused state power.

Speaking on Sunday Politics on Channels Television, Farotimi stated:
“Let me continue to reassert that I was always at peace, but when it comes to demanding an account of those who have perverted the powers of the state in pursuit of a private cause, you can be certain of one thing: some people will account for my incarceration.”

His remarks indicate a possible legal counteroffensive, aimed at holding individuals accountable for what he described as a misuse of state machinery for personal interests.
