The federal government has announced December 25 and 26, as well as January 1, 2026, as public holidays.
The holidays are in observance of Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day celebrations.
The announcement was made on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued by Magdalene Ajani, the permanent secretary of the ministry.
Tunji-Ojo encouraged Nigerians to reflect on the values of love, peace, humility, and sacrifice symbolised by the birth of Jesus Christ.
He also called on citizens, regardless of religion or ethnic background, to use the festive season as a time to pray for peace, security, and national development.
The minister further urged Nigerians to remain law-abiding and security-conscious throughout the celebrations, while wishing them a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
