The Federal Housing Authority has acquired land in 28 states as part of a nationwide strategy to expand access to affordable housing and strengthen its presence across the country.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony of the FHA Green City Estate in Abuja, the Executive Director of Estate Services, Ezekiel Etuk, said the authority had received land allocations from state governments and had already begun implementing housing projects in some locations.
He said, “In readiness to have presence in all the regions of the country, we have visited 28 states where each of the governors has given us prime lands.
“We have also commenced the process of construction in some of the states, having procured the contracts. We have carried out a ground-breaking ceremony in Akwa Ibom State, the same in Abia State, we’ve done so in Kaduna, we’ve done so in Abeokuta, and today we are doing another one here in Abuja.”
Etuk explained that the agency was modernising its operations through digital reforms designed to improve efficiency and safeguard property records. According to him, the FHA has digitised its files and is working towards full automation of its processes, while also operating a laboratory for geological and structural integrity assessments.
He stated, “Our management is also building a new federal housing authority where our allottees’ properties are secured. This is very important; our services are faster and seamless.”
The FHA official also highlighted several projects completed within the last 26 months, including residential estates and commercial facilities in Abuja and Ibadan. He noted that many of the projects had been inherited in difficult conditions but were eventually delivered.
The authority is also developing a 336-unit housing estate in Bwari, Abuja, which is expected to be commissioned before the end of the year.
Etuk assured prospective homeowners and investors that the agency would maintain high standards of quality, transparency and professionalism throughout the execution of its projects.
Also speaking, President of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria, Oba Akintoye Adeoye, described the Abuja estate project as a reflection of the opportunities available in Nigeria’s housing sector and the impact of government-backed housing initiatives.
He said, “Today’s groundbreaking ceremony is not merely the launch of another housing development. It is a strong affirmation of the enormous potential within Nigeria’s housing sector and the possibilities created by the Renew Hope Housing Initiative of President Bola Tinubu.”
Adeoye said the project would contribute to economic growth, create jobs and improve access to decent housing, while reaffirming REDAN’s commitment to supporting policies that encourage housing development and affordable financing.
Representing the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Permanent Secretary for Political and Economic Affairs, Warren Augusta, said the project aligned with ongoing efforts to reduce Nigeria’s housing deficit.
She conveyed the SGF’s belief that the development would help address housing shortages in the Federal Capital Territory and pledged continued support for the initiative.
