Flood destroys Bridges, Homes in Kebbi

A devastating flash flood has destroyed two bridges, several houses, and farmlands in Dandi and Suru local government areas of Kebbi State.

The disaster, which struck on Thursday, caused the collapse of a bridge in Fana township and another on the Dakingari–Kyangakwai road. Communities across the affected areas also suffered widespread damage, with homes and farms submerged.

During a sympathy visit on Saturday, Deputy Governor Senator Umar Tafida conveyed the government’s condolences to victims in Dandi, Suru, and Argungu LGAs. He presented ₦70 million in financial support alongside relief materials, including bags of rice, to ease their hardship.

The deputy governor pledged the immediate reconstruction of the collapsed bridges and urged residents in flood-prone areas to relocate to safer ground. He also prayed for divine protection against future disasters.

Local leaders confirmed one fatality, extensive damage to homes, and the destruction of hundreds of farms.

The Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Mera, commended the government’s swift intervention and assured continued support for Governor Nasir Idris’s administration.
