Four abducted persons have been freed by Nigerian troops in separate operations in Zamfara and Kebbi states as the military steps up its fight against kidnapping and terrorism in the North-West.
The rescue missions were conducted on Wednesday by troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, following intelligence reports about criminal activities in the two states.
In Zamfara, soldiers rescued two victims, identified as Mansur Shehu, 25, and Kadijat Haruna, 49, after responding to reports of a terrorist attack on farmland in Binoni Marafa, Maru Local Government Area.
The military also carried out a search operation in Kebbi after receiving information that suspected terrorists were transporting kidnapped persons from Dupindu Village in Kanya District, Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.
The operation resulted in the rescue of Jimoh Su-Arege, 35, and Kalahe Danjuma, 41. The victims were later released into the care of the Seriki of Dipindu.
The Army said security personnel had increased surveillance and patrols in vulnerable communities to prevent further attacks and restrict the activities of armed groups.
It added that the operations formed part of ongoing efforts to recover kidnapped persons, weaken terrorist networks and improve security across Zamfara and Kebbi states.
