Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, is expected to present the state’s 2026 budget to the House of Assembly on Friday, marking a key step in the government’s fiscal planning.
The presentation follows the recent approval of the state’s 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework by lawmakers, which paved the way for the appropriation bill.
The budget is expected to be presented at the Assembly Quarters Auditorium, where the legislators have continued to sit since the Assembly complex became unusable during the state’s political crisis.
A Government House official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the governor’s scheduled appearance, saying, “Today is the D-Day. Then much awaited budget will happen today. The governor will present his budget.”
The budget process had been stalled by the prolonged face-off between the executive and the legislature.
Despite the delay, supporters of the governor argued that a fresh budget was unnecessary earlier in the year because the Senate had already approved a spending plan for Rivers after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency and appointed Ibok-Ete Ibas as sole administrator.
With tensions now easing following recent reconciliation efforts, the planned budget presentation is widely seen as another sign of renewed cooperation between Governor Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly.
