Angry youths in Benue South on Saturday staged a protest during the ongoing primaries of the All Progressives Congress, calling for immediate intervention over the continuous killings in parts of the Idoma-speaking area.
The protesters blocked a major highway in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State, causing disruptions to traffic and political activities within the area.
Holding a coffin and placards with different inscriptions, the demonstrators chanted “No election” and maintained that political activities should not proceed while residents continued to lose their lives to armed attackers.
The protesting youths said the security situation in Apa Local Government Area has worsened considerably, with recurring attacks reportedly carried out by suspected armed herdsmen and other criminal elements.
One of the protesters was heard saying, “Apa is bleeding, we are saying no to election.’
