A Chief Magistrate Court No. 1 in Gombe State, presided over by Chief Magistrate Musa-Saleh Kilawa, has granted bail to a 55-year-old woman, Antine Amadu, who was arraigned for allegedly receiving stolen property worth N60,000.
Amadu, a resident of Dawaki Quarters, Gombe, was accused of dishonestly receiving a gallon of Turkey cooking oil allegedly stolen from one Haruna Magaji of Ajiya Quarters in the state.
According to the prosecution, the alleged incident occurred around 1am on August 27, 2026, when Amadu reportedly received the item from one Ibrahim Hassan of Aniya Quarters, Gombe.
Presenting the case before the court, the state counsel, Hafsat Aliyu, said the alleged offence contravened Section 317 of the Penal Code Law.
“The defendant is before this honourable court for allegedly receiving property which she knew or had reason to believe was stolen,” Aliyu told the court.
When the charge was read and explained to her, Amadu pleaded not guilty to the allegation.
Following her plea, the court considered her bail application and granted her bail.
The court subsequently adjourned the matter until September 14, 2026, for hearing.
The case is expected to proceed with the presentation of evidence and further arguments by the prosecution and defence when it comes up on the adjourned date.
