Katsina State Governor, Mallam Dikko Radda, on Wednesday assented to the 2026 Appropriation Bill, approving a total expenditure of ₦897,865,078,282.
The budget includes ₦167,725,372,458 (18.68%) earmarked for recurrent spending and ₦730,139,705,823 (81.32%) allocated for capital projects.
During the signing ceremony at Government House, Katsina, Radda praised the State House of Assembly for fast-tracking the legislative process, completing their work just 21 days after he presented the budget.
“And today, after 21 working days, the State Assembly passed the budget yesterday, 25 November, barely three weeks after I submitted the proposal.
“I have now signed the 2026 Budget Appropriation Bill, totalling N897,865,078,282.05. This is the appropriation law duly passed and signed.”
Radda highlighted that this is the first budget in the state’s history with such a low percentage allocated to recurrent expenditure.
“If you recall, during the late Yar’Adua era, legislation was enacted ensuring recurrent expenditure did not exceed 30% of the budget.
“Although late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua passed away, may Allah bless his gentle soul, we are upholding his legacy with only 18% allocated to recurrent expenditure. This budget stays true to that principle.”
Describing the budget as “the people’s budget,” the governor emphasised that it was formulated based on input from residents during town hall meetings held across all 361 wards.
Residents conveyed their priorities, and “it would be unreasonable to craft a budget without consulting the people whose welfare we seek to improve.”
Earlier, the Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Nasir Daura, confirmed that the House unanimously agreed that the proposal was sound and aligned with the Radda administration’s development plans.
“Your Excellency, on behalf of my colleagues, I present the 2026 Appropriation Law. This budget reflects an intensive legislative review process. We asked critical questions to ensure it meets the people’s needs and they will benefit from it.
“Your Excellency may recall that the budget you submitted was N897,865,078,282.05. After thorough consideration, the House approves the proposal as it is.”
