At least seven students were injured after gunmen attacked a hostel at the Ebonyi State College of Health Science and Technology in Ngbo, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The attack occurred around 1am on Tuesday when the armed men reportedly broke into the hostel and stole students’ belongings.
Joshua Ukandu, public relations officer (PRO) of the Ebonyi State Police Command, confirmed the incident to TheCable on Wednesday, adding that investigations are ongoing.
Cases of armed robbery in Nigerian tertiary institutions have remained a recurring concern.
The incident comes days after a student of Lagos State University (LASU), Joseph Otabor, died following injuries sustained during a robbery attack in the Iba area of Lagos.
Olaniyi Jeariogbe, spokesperson for LASU, said Otabor, a student of the department of history and international studies, was attacked alongside his friends outside the campus at night.
In June 2025, a student of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai, Niger State, was also killed during a robbery incident, prompting the state government to temporarily shut down the institution.
Earlier in February, robbers invaded Awolowo Hall hostel for female students at the University of Ibadan (UI), stealing mobile phones, jewellery, clothing and other valuables during a raid that lasted over an hour.
