Lagos State Deputy Governor and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election, Obafemi Hamzat, has unveiled a 100-point manifesto outlining his plans for the state.
Speaking at an event in Lagos on Friday, Hamzat said the manifesto, titled “The Lagos Promise”, covers key areas including healthcare, education, employment, infrastructure, youth empowerment, security and inclusive governance.
He explained that the document is structured around seven pillars: people first, renewal, opportunity, machinery of government, inclusion, security and resilience, and everyday dignity.
Hamzat said his proposed administration would be guided by respect, work and truth. He added that his ambition was not merely to secure votes but to earn the confidence of Lagos residents by presenting his vision and demonstrating his preparedness to lead the state.
“I stand before you today, not simply to ask for your vote, but to earn your trust, to share my vision for Lagos, to explain what I believe that we must do differently, and to demonstrate why I’m prepared to serve you,” he said.
The deputy governor said his childhood experiences had influenced his understanding of residents’ needs, particularly the importance of effective drainage systems and reliable electricity.
He also highlighted some of his contributions to the current administration, including the development of Lagos’ digital map and residents’ register, the introduction of single-digit mortgage rates and the construction of inner roads.
Hamzat pledged to complete the state’s rail projects, improve road and water transportation, expand access to affordable housing, strengthen security and upgrade healthcare services across the 57 local government areas and local council development areas.
He also promised improvements in education, skills development and employment opportunities, alongside support for small businesses. Other priorities include better waste management, flood prevention and the protection of coastal communities.
He said his vision was to create a safer, more prosperous and inclusive Lagos, with residents placed at the centre of government decisions.
Hamzat further promised to establish an independent body to monitor his administration’s performance and assess its progress in fulfilling its commitments.
“An independent performance council will review delivery and report directly to you as Lagosians,” he said.
“And every year, one document will set every promise against the result. Where we miss a target, that report will name it.
“That report will give us reason and set a new date.
“Chinua Achebe often repeated an old proverb…until the lions have their own historians, the story of the hounds will always glorify the hunter.
“So, the Hamzat compact makes every Lagosian a historian of my government. It puts the pen in your hands. You check it, you track it, and you measure it.”
