Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has called on residents to refrain from harbouring criminals or supporting their activities, warning that he would not hesitate to order the demolition of any house found sheltering criminal elements in the state.
Governor Eno issued the warning during the Government House Monthly Prayer Service at the Latter House Chapel on Saturday.
While stressing the importance of maintaining peace and security, Eno highlighted that the state is known for its peaceful environment and added that any attempts to disrupt it would be dealt with decisively.
The state government regularly holds monthly covenant services and other prayer gatherings to seek divine intervention for the state and its leadership. These events include prayers, worship, and sermons focused on themes such as faith, prosperity, and governance.
He said, “Please, let our people be aware of this. If you are using your house to keep criminals, if we catch you, we will demolish that house.”
Governor Eno also identified areas requiring urgent attention, including the flood-prone Aka Itiam Street. He noted that the rainy season has slowed construction progress, especially on the roads, but assured that work would accelerate with the onset of the dry season.
He reiterated that Akwa Ibom has become a stronghold of the All Progressives Congress, pledging the state’s full support for the party’s candidates in forthcoming elections.
The Governor encouraged residents to continue supporting the government’s efforts to implement the ARISE Agenda, while expressing gratitude to those who attended the monthly prayer service and highlighting the importance of prayers in sustaining the state.
He appointed and inaugurated Rev. Dr. (Mrs.) Enobong Ibok of Eyak Ibong Akam Outreach Ministry as leader of the Government House Prayer Team, emphasizing that the team should be composed of committed Christians ready to dedicate their time and energy to intercede for the state and its leaders.
In her homily, Rev. Dr. (Mrs.) Ibok, preaching on the theme “The God Who Sees Me,” drawn from scripture, urged Christians to avoid betrayal and remain faithful, reminding them that God observes every action and rewards each person according to their deeds.
On november 11, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered dangerous weapons from different locations across the state.
