The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has outlined the steps candidates can take to confirm the subject combinations and O’Level requirements for their preferred courses before applying for admission.
The board warned that candidates may be denied admission despite obtaining good UTME scores and O’Level results if they fail to meet the specific subject requirements of their chosen programmes.
In an advisory shared on its JAMB Explained platform on X on Friday, the examination body explained that admission criteria vary across universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.
To help candidates avoid mistakes, JAMB directed them to its Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS) portal at www.ibass.jamb.gov.ng, where they can access the approved requirements for different institutions and courses.
Candidates can check their requirements by following these steps:
1. Visit the IBASS portal and click on the brochure section.
2. Select the option to view all institutions.
3. Use the institution filter to find the preferred university, polytechnic or college of education.
4. Choose the desired course and click on “View Details” to access its admission requirements.
The board explained that the information provided includes the required O’Level subjects and grades, as well as the approved UTME subject combinations for each programme.
Candidates are advised to compare the requirements with their examination subjects and results to ensure they meet the conditions for admission.
JAMB emphasised that confirming these details before selecting a course or making changes to admission preferences could help prevent errors that may affect candidates’ eligibility.
The examination body reiterated that meeting the prescribed subject requirements is essential for admission, regardless of candidates’ performance in their UTME and O’Level examinations.
