How Tinubu is transforming Nigeria – Saidi Balogun

The veteran actor, Saidi Balogun, has declared his support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, describing it as “successfully driving a transformative agenda for Nigeria.”

Speaking on Nollywood On Radio, Balogun responded to criticisms of the current government while outlining why he stands behind its policies.

He explained that leaders who reach a certain stage in life are typically more focused on the legacy they will leave behind than on personal wealth accumulation — a category he believes Tinubu belongs to.

“So if I decided to say okay this one is old enough, he is rich enough and when people get to certain age, all they are thinking of is what will people say when I leave? They have had that money when they needed it, now all they would be thinking about is transformation,” he said.

“I want to be like Awolowo, I want to be like… And I decided to say I know all of you but this one is better out of all of them. We should think, that is why if you abuse till tomorrow, I will just laugh. Abuse me today, you will praise me tomorrow.”

The actor also pointed out “several positive economic indicators” under the present administration.

Citing examples, he noted the increase in Nigeria’s foreign reserves and lauded reforms to the student loan scheme.

“Like today, our foreign reserves has gone up to $40 billion. Those people, they have been in government before, what happened to our foreign reserves? Look at what they are doing to student loans now, students in the north are singing,” he added.

Balogun, who began his career in 1978, remains one of Nollywood’s most respected figures, with decades of contributions, countless film appearances, and numerous awards to his name.
