How to check your name on INEC’s voters register online ahead of 2027 elections

Nigerians can now check the preliminary register of voters for the 2027 general election online through the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) dedicated portal.

The commission made the register available online following concerns about its earlier absence from the website during the inspection period.

The platform enables registered voters to view the names and photographs of people listed in their polling units and verify their own details ahead of the publication of the final register.

Here is a step-by-step guide to checking the register online.

1. Visit INEC’s online register portal

Visit https://display.inecnigeria.org/, the commission’s dedicated website for viewing the preliminary register of voters.

2. Sign in to your account

Users must sign in before accessing the register. Follow the instructions provided on the website to log in.

3. Select your polling unit

After signing in, choose your state, local government area, ward and polling unit to access the register for your location.

Alternatively, you can enter your polling unit code to locate the relevant register.

4. Check the names and photographs

The portal displays the names and photographs of registered voters in the selected polling unit.

Users can select a letter to navigate directly to surnames beginning with that letter, making it easier to browse the list.

Check that your name and other displayed details are accurate. You can also inspect the entries of other registered voters in your polling unit.

5. Understand the portal’s limitations

INEC’s website is intended solely for viewing the preliminary register. It cannot be used to register as a voter, transfer registration to another polling unit or replace a Permanent Voter Card (PVC).

The platform also does not allow users to search for an individual’s name across the country. Instead, users must select a polling unit to view its register.

INEC monitors activity on the platform and limits the amount of information each account can access to prevent misuse of the register. Users who reach the limit may be required to try again later.

Those who wish to register to vote or access other voter registration services can visit INEC’s Continuous Voter Registration portal.

What happens after the inspection?

INEC says it is processing claims and objections arising from the preliminary register inspection exercise ahead of the certification and publication of the final register on December 15, 2026.

Voters who discover errors or discrepancies should consult the commission’s official guidance on submitting claims or objections. The online viewing portal itself cannot be used to register as a voter or correct registration details.
