I was ridiculed over my daughter’s death for supporting Tinubu – Remi Surutu

Nollywood actress Remilekun Oshodi, popularly known as Remi Surutu, has spoken about the intense online harassment she experienced while supporting Bola Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election.

Speaking at the launch of EKO57, a Lagos-based support group for Tinubu’s campaign, the actress revealed in a viral video that social media users went as far as blaming her for the death of her daughter due to her political involvement.

She described how critics attacked and insulted her online during the campaign period, including claims made on the eve of the election linking her political support to her personal tragedy. Despite the abuse, she said she remained firm in her beliefs and was not intimidated.

According to her, she still went out to vote, stressing that voting is a personal right and should not be influenced by fear or pressure. She also expressed continued confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, encouraging others to form their own opinions and participate in the democratic process.

The actress further commented on political loyalty, suggesting that many people switch positions for personal gain. She emphasised the importance of understanding one’s choices and standing by them.

Oshodi also defended her political stance, stating that she would not withdraw her support and intended to continue campaigning and voting for Tinubu.

The veteran actress lost her first daughter, Ayomikun, in July 2017 due to complications from sickle cell disease. Following the loss, she publicly expressed gratitude for strength and shared messages of hope, while continuing her career in the film industry.

The EKO57 campaign event in Lagos reportedly attracted several entertainment industry figures, including Yomi Fash Lanso, Ayo Adesanya, and Lege Miami.

Despite online criticism, Oshodi maintained that she remains committed to her political views and will not be discouraged by threats or attacks.
