Donald Trump has stated that he would prefer to seize Iran’s oil resources as tensions between the United States, Iran, and Israel continue to escalate.
Speaking in an interview, Trump said, “To be honest with you, my favourite thing is to take the oil in Iran but some stupid people back in the US say: ‘why are you doing that?’ But they’re stupid people.”
He also hinted at the possibility of targeting key Iranian oil infrastructure, including Kharg Island, adding, “Maybe we take Kharg Island, maybe we don’t. We have a lot of options.”
The remarks come amid ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has disrupted global oil supply routes and heightened geopolitical tensions.
Iran, a member of OPEC, holds one of the world’s largest crude oil reserves and controls the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz — a route responsible for transporting a significant portion of global oil shipments.
The waterway has been largely restricted due to the conflict, further tightening global energy supply and pushing oil prices higher.
Trump’s comments have added to fears of further escalation, with analysts warning that any move to seize Iranian oil facilities could deepen the crisis and destabilise global markets.
