INEC petitions DSS, Police over Imo APC Primary report

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Imo State has petitioned the Department of State Services and the Nigeria Police Force over a disputed All Progressives Congress senatorial primary report circulating on social media.

The document allegedly presents former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha as the APC candidate for Imo West Senatorial District, contrary to the result contained in a report said to have been submitted to INEC.

In separate letters dated October 5 and 8, 2026, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Imo State, Chukwuemeka Ibeziako, described the disputed document as fraudulent and urged the security agencies to investigate its circulation.

According to the REC, the authentic report, dated May 18, 2026, identified Senator Hope Odidika Uzodinma as the winner of the APC primary and the party’s duly elected candidate for Imo West Senatorial District.

However, the disputed document allegedly named Okorocha as the winner of the primary election.

INEC said it attached copies of both documents to its petitions, identifying the authentic report as Annexure A and the disputed document as Annexure B.

The commission asked the DSS and police to investigate the circumstances surrounding the circulation of the disputed report and take appropriate action.

It also warned that the alleged conduct could undermine law and order in Imo State, calling on the security agencies to intervene.

The petitions come amid political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with INEC urging stakeholders to comply with electoral laws and procedures.
