INEC warns against fake 2027 ad-hoc staff recruitment

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cautioned Nigerians against a fraudulent online recruitment notice claiming that the commission has begun recruiting and training ad-hoc personnel for the 2027 General Election.

INEC said the fake message directs interested applicants to a website allegedly set up for the recruitment exercise. However, the commission clarified that the notice did not originate from it and should be disregarded.

In a statement issued on Monday, INEC said, “The attention of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been drawn to a message circulating online claiming that the Commission is currently recruiting and training ad-hoc staff for the 2027 General Election.”

According to the INEC statement, the circulating message also directs applicants to a recruitment website.

The commission said, “This information is not from INEC. The website/link being circulated is NOT an official INEC recruitment portal.”

INEC urged members of the public not to engage with the website or provide any personal information through it.

The commission said, “Members of the public are strongly advised NOT to click on the link, submit personal information, upload documents or make any payment through the platform.”

INEC further advised Nigerians to rely only on its verified communication channels and official websites for recruitment and election-related information.

The commission said, “INEC’s official recruitment and election-related announcements are published through the Commission’s verified communication channels and official websites.”

It directed members of the public seeking authentic information to visit its official website.

According to the statement, “For official information, please visit: inecnigeria.org.”

The electoral commission said it had previously warned Nigerians about fraudulent websites and fake recruitment advertisements claiming to originate from INEC.

INEC said, “The Commission has previously warned the public about fraudulent websites and fake recruitment advertisements purporting to originate from INEC.”

The commission urged the public to disregard and avoid circulating the fake notice.

INEC said, “Please disregard and do not circulate this false recruitment notice.”

It concluded with a warning to Nigerians to verify information before responding to online recruitment notices, saying, “Stay informed. Stay safe. Always verify before you click.”
