INEC warns against fake website

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cautioned Nigerians against a fraudulent website falsely claiming that its nationwide online voter registration exercise is currently underway.

In a public notice issued on Saturday, the commission said the website, pvc-inecnigeria-org.blogspot.com, was circulating false information about a new registration window supposedly scheduled from September 28 to October 27, 2026.

INEC disowned the platform and advised members of the public not to visit the website, click on its links or provide personal information through it.

“Members of the public are strongly advised not to click on the link or submit any personal information on the website, as doing so may expose them to the risk of having their sensitive personal data harvested or misused,” the advisory read.

Clarifying the status of the exercise, INEC emphasized that nationwide voter registration closed on July 26, 2026, adding that any report suggesting an ongoing online registration was false.

“The commission further wishes to clarify that the voter registration exercise closed on July 26, 2026. Any information suggesting that a new nationwide online voter registration exercise is currently ongoing through the above-mentioned website is false,” it stated.

The fraudulent site reportedly offers a fake “Final Phase of Nationwide Online Voter Card Registration,” promising services such as details update, polling unit transfers, and replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards.

It also falsely claims that voter registration and PVC delivery are free.

INEC urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify all electoral information through its official communication channels to avoid falling victim to cyber scam platforms.
