JUST IN: Benue Assembly suspends four members over attempt to impeach speaker

The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four lawmakers—Alfred Berger (Makurdi North), Terna Shimawua (Kian State Constituency), Cyril Ekong (Obi State Constituency), and James Umoru (Apa State Constituency)—for a period of six months.

According to the Assembly, the suspension came in response to an alleged attempt to impeach the Speaker, Aondona Dajoh, on Thursday night.

In a motion of urgent public importance, the Majority Leader, Saater Tiseer, called for disciplinary action, accusing the lawmakers of trying to destabilize the House by instigating an unnecessary crisis.

Following the motion’s adoption, the Speaker instructed the Sergeant-at-Arms to escort the suspended members out of the chamber.

In addition, Speaker Dajoh appointed Audu Elias as the new spokesperson of the House, replacing Alfred Berger, who previously held the role.
