The House of Representatives has approved the Executive Bill seeking to establish state police in Nigeria.
The bill was passed during Thursday’s plenary after the House withdrew its own proposed constitutional amendment on the creation of state police.
The development marks a significant step in the country’s efforts to decentralise its security system.
This is coming after the Nigerian Senate previously approved its own version, bringing the country closer to a dual policing system designed to combat widespread banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism.
