The Kano State Hisbah Board has apprehended a 43-year-old man, Abubakar Adodo from Fagge Local Government Area, for allegedly trying to traffic two women to Somalia via Benin Republic.
The victims, identified as 22-year-old Hajara Ismail from Funtua, Katsina State, and 33-year-old Bilkisu Haruna from Kofar Marusa, Katsina, were intercepted with the suspect at a motor park in Kano as they prepared to head to Lagos before continuing their journey to Somalia.
The Deputy commander general of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Mujahid Aminudeen Abubakar, said the arrest followed a tip-off from concerned citizens.“The operation was carried out by the Officer-in-Charge of Motor Parks Operations after we received credible information from Good Samaritans.”
He confirmed that the suspect and the two women have since been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation.
