The Katsina State Government says efforts to secure the freedom of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar and his wife are progressing, with security agencies intensifying operations following their recent abduction.
In a statement released by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Dr Bala Salisu Zango, the government expressed hope that the couple would soon be reunited with their family as rescue activities continue across the state.
Authorities disclosed that Governor Dikko Umaru Radda directed security operatives to immediately focus on the rescue mission after receiving reports of the incident.
According to the statement, “Governor Dikko Umaru Radda immediately directed all relevant security agencies to prioritise the safe rescue of the couple and other victims being held by criminal groups.”
The government said initial findings suggest the kidnappers may have specifically targeted the former military spokesperson and his wife, tracking their movements before carrying out the attack.
“Evidence gathered so far suggests that the veteran military officer and his spouse were specifically monitored and trailed right from Kaduna, their point of departure.
“The precision of the abduction indicates the involvement of organised criminal groups. This insight is currently guiding the strategy of the security forces to ensure a focused and effective rescue mission.
“The administration remains committed to ensuring that those who orchestrated this plan are brought to justice,” the statement noted.
Officials added that investigators are combining intelligence reports with technological tools to locate the suspects and dismantle the network behind the operation.
“We are dealing with a targeted operation, which changes the dynamics of our response.
“The state is working around the clock, utilising both technology and ground intelligence to close in on the abductors. Our primary goal remains the safe return of the General, his wife and others in similar situations.
“The Katsina State Government appeals to the public for any information regarding suspicious movements or activities that preceded the event, as such details are crucial in dismantling the network responsible for this targeted hit,” the statement said.
The government further revealed that the military, police and intelligence services are working together more closely to ensure a successful rescue without jeopardising the safety of those in captivity.
While assuring residents that every available resource is being deployed, the government called for patience and cooperation from the public.
“We are confident that the ongoing high-level operations will yield a positive result very shortly,” it said.
Authorities also pledged to provide updates as the situation develops.
