Kebbi Governor reassigns two commissioners

Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has approved the reassignment of two commissioners in the State Executive Council as part of a minor cabinet reshuffle.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Yakubu Tafida, announced this in a statement released to journalists on Monday in Birnin Kebbi.

Tafida explained that the decision reflects the governor’s commitment to restructuring the civil service for more effective and efficient service delivery across the state.

Under the new arrangement, Samaila Yakubu Augie has been posted to the Ministry of Health, which has been without a commissioner since the suspension of Yunusa Ismail for negligence of duty. Similarly, Haliru Aliyu Wasagu, who formerly served as Commissioner for Solid Minerals before his suspension and replacement by Garba Warah, has now been redeployed to the Ministry of Internal Security.

“The Executive Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, has approved the redeployment of the aforementioned Honourable Commissioners. This directive takes immediate effect and must be strictly followed,” the statement read.

Tafida thanked members of the State Executive Council for their continued support and cooperation, noting that their dedication has contributed significantly to the administration’s progress.

He reaffirmed the governor’s commitment to promoting peace, unity, and improved public service delivery across Kebbi State.

Meanwhile, at least ten herders were reportedly killed in a reprisal attack on a Fulani settlement in Tilli community, Bunza Local Government Area, on Sunday.

A local source told Channels Television that the assault followed the killing of a vigilante member by suspected Lakurawa bandits. The attack was allegedly carried out by members of the community who blamed local Fulani residents for the vigilante’s death.

“The attack was a mistake. They thought the Fulani were behind the vigilante’s killing and raided their settlement, killing more than ten people and injuring several others,” the source said.

The Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Umar Tafida, alongside officials of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, visited the area to console the families of the deceased.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, said he had not yet been briefed on the incident but promised to comment after confirming the details.
