A Kogi State Polytechnic student, Miss Dorcas Omotosho, has died after a failed attempt to terminate a six-month pregnancy.
The incident happened on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Al-Hassan Clinic and Maternity, a private facility in the Sarkin Noma area of Lokoja, Lokoja Local Government Area.
According to findings, the 26-year-old had approached the clinic for an abortion, which was carried out, but the medical staff failed to control excessive bleeding afterward, leading to her death.
A police officer later arrived at the clinic, recorded the scene, and the body was taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Lokoja, for preservation.
The owner of the clinic has also been arrested and detained at the state CID Lokoja by the police for investigation.
When contacted, management of the Kogi State Polytechnic stated that they were not aware of the incident. The Director, Public Relations and Protocol, Uredo Omale said, The school is not aware because the students are on holiday at the moment.
The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Williams Ovye, could not be reached for confirmation as his line was not accessible at the time of sending this report.
