Kwankwaso May Still Join APC-Abdulmumin Jibrin

A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has revealed that former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso remains open to joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jibrin, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), said on Wednesday that the possibility of Kwankwaso teaming up with President Bola Tinubu cannot be ruled out.

“As far as that [joining APC] is concerned, he has always maintained that his doors are open, our doors are open for discussions. Everything is a possibility,” Jibrin told Channels Television’s Politics Today.

Although speculations about Kwankwaso’s move to the APC appeared to have died down, Jibrin stressed that “the door is not closed. He has never said it is closed”.

When asked what may be delaying Kwankwaso’s entry into the APC, the Chairman of the House Committee on Housing and Habitat suggested that vested interests within the Kano APC might resist their entry, particularly those eyeing governorship ambitions.

He emphasised that the Kwankwasiyya Movement, led by Kwankwaso, remains a formidable political force that cannot be ignored in national politics.

While Jibrin stopped short of confirming his own defection to the APC, he maintained that “everything is a possibility”, noting that he does not require Kwankwaso’s permission to make such a decision.

Kwankwaso, who ran for president in 2023 under the NNPP, polled 1,496,687 votes, finishing fourth behind Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi.
