Kwara Govt orders closure of schools in four LGAs amid rising insecurity

The Kwara State Government announced on Wednesday the immediate closure of schools in four local government areas due to escalating insecurity in some communities.

The decision was communicated by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Kwara State wing, on the same day.

In a circular obtained by Channels Television, NUT Chairman Yusuf Agboola confirmed that schools in Isin, Irepodun, Ifelodun, and Ekiti LGAs would be shut down.

Agboola explained that the union was acting on directives from the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development following government concerns over recent security threats in Kwara South.

“Comrade chairmen, this is to inform you and through you, all schools in the above local governments of the instruction to close down all schools with immediate effect until further notice. This decision was occasioned by the security challenges ravaging the area and the efforts of the government to control the situation. Treat this information as important and with the urgency it deserves, as it emanated from the ministry,” the circular stated.

He assured school heads and teachers that further instructions would be issued as the situation develops.
