The lawmaker representing Edu State Constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly, Saba Gideon, has left the All Progressives Congress.
Gideon confirmed his departure on Thursday, explaining that issues surrounding fairness, inclusiveness and internal democracy influenced his decision.
The lawmaker communicated his decision in an August 19, 2026 letter to the APC Ward Chairman of Tsaragi Ward 3 in Edu Local Government Area.
According to him, the decision followed consultations with his constituents and other political stakeholders.
“I hereby formally resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress, effective immediately,” Gideon said in the letter.
He added that his decision came after careful consideration of recent developments within the party.
“This decision follows careful reflection and consultations with my constituents and key stakeholders.
“Recent developments within the party, particularly concerning internal democracy, fairness and inclusiveness, have led me to take this decision,” Gideon stated.
Gideon, who chairs the House Committee on Livestock, assured his constituents that his exit from the APC would not affect his duties as their representative.
“I remain committed to serving the people of Edu State Constituency, Kwara State, and Nigeria with integrity, dedication, and accountability,” he said.
He also appreciated the party and its members for the support he received during his membership.
“Thank you for the opportunity to serve and for the support received during my membership of the party,” he added.
The lawmaker has not stated which political platform he plans to join next.
His resignation follows an earlier dispute with the Kwara Assembly, which suspended him for three months in December 2025 over allegations relating to a secretly recorded closed-door meeting.
Gideon subsequently challenged the suspension in court, and the Kwara State High Court overturned it in February 2026, ruling that the action was unconstitutional, unlawful and had no legal effect.
The court also held that the suspension breached the lawmaker’s rights and was not properly supported by the relevant laws and rules of the Assembly.
