The Labour Party has dismissed reports claiming it failed to upload the names of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates before the Independent National Electoral Commission’s nomination portal closed, insisting it completed the process four days ahead of the deadline.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, described the reports as false and misleading, urging members and supporters to disregard them.
According to Asogwa, the party successfully uploaded the names of its presidential, vice-presidential and National Assembly candidates before the July 14 deadline set by INEC.
He explained that the presidential and vice-presidential candidates’ details were submitted on July 10 in full compliance with the commission’s timetable and nomination guidelines.
The party also criticised the unnamed media organisation behind the report, accusing it of publishing unverified claims allegedly sourced from an anonymous INEC official without seeking clarification from the party’s leadership.
Asogwa expressed confidence that INEC’s publication of the final list of validly nominated candidates for the 2027 general elections would confirm that the Labour Party met all nomination requirements.
He urged Nigerians to ignore what he described as deliberate misinformation aimed at discrediting the party, insisting its growing popularity had unsettled political opponents ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
