The Lagos Water Corporation has announced a temporary interruption of water supply across several parts of Lagos to carry out essential repair and replacement works at the Adiyan I Water Treatment Plant.
In a statement released on its website on Tuesday, the corporation said the disruption will impact areas such as Akiode, Ikeja, Magodo, Oregun, Ketu, Ojota, Maryland, Aromire, Ogudu, Gbagada, Shomolu, Ojuelegba, Oyingbo, Ijora Olopa, Agege, and parts of Lagos Island.
The LWC explained that the maintenance is required to address a leak on the ND1600mm Adiyan raw water pipeline at the Akute Intake Station.
“It was observed that the persistent water discharge from the leakage point is saturating the surrounding soil, thereby compromising ground stability and posing safety risks to heavy construction equipment, including cranes and excavators, currently deployed in the affected area,” the statement noted.
LWC said the continuous leakage has reportedly impacted the ongoing construction of the Adiyan Phase II project.
The corporation explained that the persistent water discharge from the leakage has been saturating the surrounding soil, compromising ground stability and posing safety risks to heavy construction equipment, including cranes and excavators, deployed in the area.
To ensure safe and effective execution of the Adiyan II intake construction works, LWC said the Adiyan I Water Treatment Plant will be shut down temporarily until the repair and replacement works are completed.
LWC assured customers that efforts are being intensified to complete the repairs promptly and that water supply restoration is expected soon.
