Motorists travelling through the Pen Cinema and Agege areas of Lagos have been advised to expect heavier traffic on Wednesday as the state government prepares to inaugurate a new Fresh Food Hub.
The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation issued the warning on Tuesday, noting that the event could attract a significant number of vehicles and pedestrians to the area.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is scheduled to officially open the facility at Pen Cinema between 11am and 3pm. The inauguration is being organised by the state Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems.
The ministry said the expected turnout could affect traffic movement along the Pen Cinema Agege corridor.
“Due to the high volume of vehicular and human traffic expected around the Pen Cinema–Agege axis on account of the event, motorists plying this route are advised to plan their movement ahead of time to reduce congestion and delay,” the statement said.
Traffic management officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be stationed around the area to control vehicle movement and reduce delays.
“As is routine for events of this nature, officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be deployed to manage traffic flow and minimise inconvenience to road users within the axis and its environs,” the ministry said.
Authorities urged commuters who do not need to use the route to consider other roads during the period of the ceremony.
“Motorists and commuters are advised to use alternative routes where possible during the period of the event and to exercise patience while transiting the area,” it added.
The government said the temporary traffic arrangements were necessary to minimise disruption and help road users navigate the area more easily during the event.
“The state government regrets any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates the understanding and cooperation of all road users as it continues to deliver projects that improve the livelihood of Lagosians,” the statement said.
